A. Eligibility Criteria

Any student who has qualified Class XII (or equivalent) examination in science stream either in the year 2022 or 2023 or 2024 can apply to the BS (four year) degree / BS- MS (five year) dual degree programs in IISERs provided the eligibility criteria are satisfied. Please click here to know more about the eligibility criteria. At present, the BS degree programs (Engineering Sciences and Economic Sciences) are available only at IISER Bhopal. Also, for applying to any of the BS degree programs, students must have Mathematics as one of the subjects in class XII examinations.

Students who passed Class XII (or equivalent) in 2021 cannot apply. Only students who have passed out in 2022 or 2023 or 2024 are eligible to apply.

Yes. You will have produce the result of the qualifying examination (class XII or equivalent) when the portal opens to upload documents for counselling (post the declaration of IAT 2024 results). Falling this, you will not be considered for counselling.

Yes. Candidates who are not citizens of India AND do not hold OCI/PIO cards shall be considered foreign nationals. Such candidates if eligible to appear for IAT 2024 may contact the Chairperson Joint Admissions Committee at askjac2024@iiserb.ac.in with the email subject line "Foreign National - Application for IAT 2024".

The candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD require to score a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in their class XII (or equivalent) examination. Candidates belonging to other categories require to score a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in their class XII (or equivalent) examination.

B. Application Process

No. All admissions are carried out centrally. IISERs admit students through a common application process and all candidates will be admitted through the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) 2024. One application form submitted through the application portal is valid for all the IISERs.

The application fee is Rs. 2000/- for candidates applying under General, EWS, OBC, and OBC-NCL categories and is Rs. 1,000/- for candidates applying under persons with disabilities (PwD), persons registered as Kashmiri Migrants (KM) and SC/ST category. The application fee is non-refundable and must be paid during the submission of the application form, which starts from April 01, 2024.

You will be asked to indicate your preferences for IISERs in the online application form. This will be required to be done after the declaration of the IAT 2024 results and not during the filling up of the application form for appearing in the IAT 2024.

You need to upload your original mark sheet in the application portal but the percentage in the application form should be the revised one. The revised marks statement from your board confirming the change of marks must be sent to askjac2024@iiserb.ac.in with a subject line “Revised Marks”. You should also mention your application number in the subject line. Please check the timelines click here. Please note if the subject line is not as mentioned above, we may not be able to help you.

Once you have submitted your application, you will be allowed some windows at specified times where you can edit some information on your application. Please click here for the details of the time windows. You will NOT be able to edit category (General/OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/KM) information after submitting the application.

Your application is not complete until you can download the pdf version of the filled application form after you make the payment (application fee as applicable). In case you experience any issue in downloading your application form, please write an email to askjac2024@iiserb.ac.in with a subject line “Problem with Application download”.

OBC-NCL stands for Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer). If you belong to this category, then you must select OBC-NCL as your category. Candidates belonging to this category must upload an OBC-NCL certificate, which should be valid for the financial year 2024-25 and created on or after 1st April 2024.

EWS stands for the Economically Weaker Sections. It applies to those candidates who satisfy the criteria of income and assets as laid out by the Govt. of India. Candidates belonging to this category must upload an EWS certificate, which should be valid for the financial year 2024-25 and created on or after 1st April 2024.

If the candidate is already in possession of a valid (see Q. 44, 45) OBC-NCL/EWS certificates, they may submit/upload it during the application process. Otherwise you need to upload the certificate at a later date that will be announced on our website. Please keep checking our website for updates.

As Aadhar contains sensitive information, we are not collecting the same. You are requested to choose any other ID from the given options.

C. Payment Related

D. IAT 2024

The IISER Aptitude Test 2024 will be conducted in the computer-based test mode. The mock test is available on the website.

Choices for five preferred cities where the candidate wishes to write the aptitude test have to be indicated while completing the online application form. The hall ticket will have the allotted centre details printed. If the examination cannot be conducted in any of the centres due to unforeseen reasons, the candidate would be allotted an alternate centre, and such information will be communicated in due time.

The hall ticket will be available on the website a few days before the IISER Aptitude Test. The candidates can download their hall ticket on and from June 01, 2024, after logging into their account in the application portal.

There is a single channel available for admission into IISERs. All candidates will be admitted through the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) 2024.

Float option allows a candidate to be allotted an IISER/program that is higher on their preference list (if any) than the one allotted in the current round, in subsequent rounds (if any). During counselling, the float option has been enabled for all candidates.

If you are satisfied with the IISER/program allotted to you in any round and do not wish to float, you can freeze your offer upon the fee payment. Freeze option once exercised is final and cannot be changed under any circumstances.

Once you have accepted the offer, you would be considered for "Float" in subsequent round(s) provided you have exercised the Float option. F. IISER Programs, Curricula, and Policies

Each IISER is an autonomous institution. Therefore, the degree is awarded by individual IISERs.

Currently, only IISER Bhopal offers and awards the BS degree in Engineering Sciences and Economic Sciences.

Students are trained in various disciplines of basic sciences as per the designed curriculum of the respective IISERs during the formative years. Subsequently, they can take up specialized subjects. Please refer to the websites of individual IISERs for a description of their curriculum structure.

IISER Bhopal offers BS degree programs in Economic Sciences and Engineering Sciences. Students are trained in various disciplines of basic sciences and introductory courses in Economics/Engineering during the first year of study. Subsequently, they take courses toward specialization in Economics/Engineering. Please visit the IISER Bhopal website for a description of the curriculum structure for the BS degree program.

Students may only choose their department after joining an IISER (Exceptions: IISER Bhopal Economics, IISER Bhopal Engineering Sciences). Individual IISERs have their own rules and regulations regarding department allocation. Please have a look at their websites for details.

Yes. It is allowed, however allotment policy is different for different IISER.

The course curicula differs in individual IISERs. However a major subject is allotted from the third year of the academic program. The allotment is generally based on the number of seats available in that major subject and the Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) which the student maintains.

G. Foreign Candidates

A candidate who is not a citizen of India AND does not hold an OCI/PIO card shall be considered a foreign national.

You are eligible to appear if you either possess an equivalence certificate issued by the Association of Indian Universities or you have passed the Class XII or an equivalent level examination in 2022-24 from any board recognized by the Council of Boards of School Education in India COBSE, subject to the fulfillment other criteria.

The application fee is INR 12,000.

The equivalence certificate must be uploaded while submitting the IAT-2024 Application Form under the "Please upload a copy of document supporting your claim of Foreign National (You will need to produce original when necessary)" field.
